A
A Matter of Balance is a program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. It includes 8 two-hour sessions for a small group of 8-12 participants led by a trained facilitator.
This program is offered by Cass County Public Health.
With care and compassion, the Cass County Memorial Hospital inpatient nursing staff serves patients of all ages with varied medical needs. The experienced RNs, LPNs, and CNAs provide general inpatient care while coordinating services from many other hospital departments. This well-rounded team of professionals provides a full-spectrum of inpatient care, paying special attention to each patient’s individual medical and service needs.
AMC Rapid Care is a walk-in clinic through the Atlantic Medical Center. Rapid Care offers seven-day-a-week and evening hours which gives residents of Cass County and the surrounding communities better access to great affordable healthcare at convenient times, no appointment needed!
Rapid Care is the right place for minor injuries & illness when your primary care provider isn’t available soon enough.

Our board-certified surgeons’ expertise includes the following areas of care:
General surgery — treatment of the neck, breast, stomach, liver and gallbladder, intestinal or GI tract, pancreas, colon and pelvic organs. It also includes both upper and lower colon scopes (endoscopy).
Thoracic surgery — surgery of the chest including the lung, esophagus, chest wall, pleura (chest lining), heart lining and bronchoscopy (scope of the trachea and lung).
Critical care — the care of urgent and emergent patients who have life threatening or potential life-threatening illness. These include conditions such as shock, trauma, respiratory failure, sepsis (infection), organ failure and malnutrition.
Orthopedic surgery — hip and knee replacements, arthroscopic procedure, shoulder surgeries, carpal tunnel release, and trigger finger repairs.
Atlantic Medical Center is a rural health primary care clinic that cares for patients from birth to geriatrics. Our medical team of board-certified physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners provide outstanding medical care you can count on. In addition to the Atlantic office, clinics are also staffed in Anita, Griswold, and Massena.

Bone Densitometry, or DEXA (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry), is the standard of care to measure bone loss and diagnose osteoporosis. The exam is quick, noninvasive and painless.
Our Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) is happy to help with any of your concerns, share techniques and answer any questions.

Our Child Passenger Safety Technicians will inspect and help you install your child’s car seat to make sure it is safe. Car seat checks are offered during special events and by appointment. This service is offered at no cost to the public.

Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab is designed to help patients increase their fitness level in a safe, monitored environment. Each participant’s rehabilitation program is unique. Our team will work with patients, primary care providers, and cardiologists to develop personal rehabilitation plans that incorporate exercise, nutrition, lifestyle, and stress management. We offer phase II cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab, and peripheral artery disease supervised exercise therapy.
Iowa Breast and Cervical Screening, Cardiac Screening, and Health Coaching for 40- to 65-year-old income-eligible women.

Cass County Memorial Hospital is a 25-bed hospital, including medical/surgical, special care, and obstetrics. A full array of ancillary services provide support for the medical staff, which includes board-certified family medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, podiatry, general surgery, and orthopedic physician specialists.

Patients who are taking Warfarin, or other blood thinners, need to have the clotting rate, or INR, of their blood closely monitored. The Coumadin Clinic at Atlantic Medical Center makes it quick and easy for patients to get the necessary lab work done so their INR can be evaluated and medication can be adjusted as necessary.
American Heart Association CPR training classes give you the information and the skills you need to help adults, children and infants during breathing and cardiac emergencies. Cass Health has a state-of-the-art computerized tomography (CT) scanner with certified technicians available 24/7. CT scans provide a clear and specific image of internal organs, and can view a large portion of the body. The images are produced very quickly, which can be critical in emergency situations.

Digital radiography provides clear images, exposes patients to less radiation and decreases patient wait time. Images are transmitted electronically, allowing healthcare providers to view them quickly.
Developed by researchers at the University of Iowa College of Public Health, Disaster PrepWise consists of five modules and two additional sections on special topics. Participants will develop a personalized disaster management plan that they can share with their family, friends, and neighbors. Part of the planning assistance is making sure individuals are signed up to receive Alert Iowa messages. Alert Iowa is a communication tool used to inform the public about inclement weather, public safety events, or other emergencies. Planning sessions will take place at Cass County Public Health, 1408 East 10th St., Atlantic, Iowa, unless otherwise arranged. An echocardiogram (echo) is a test that uses ultrasound to make pictures of your heart. Your doctor may use an echo test to look at your heart’s structure and check how well your heart functions. This test can help show your doctor:
- The size and shape of your heart, and the size, thickness and movement of your heart’s walls..
- The heart’s pumping strength.
- If the heart valves are working correctly.
- If there is a tumor or infectious growth around your heart valves.
The staff in our Emergency Department (ED) is always ready for what’s next thanks to extensive training and experience. In a typical year, our ED staff cares for more than 7,000 patients. We care for Stoke, asthma, abdominal pain, electrical shock, coughing or vomiting blood, heart attack, poison ingestion, psychiatric issues, dehydration, shock, trauma, and broken bones. A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is always available to treat and support survivors of sexual assault through the Cass Health Emergency Department as well. We partner with Neb Med for TeleStroke, in which a neurosurgeon can assess, diagnose and treat stroke in a time sensitive model to have better clinical outcomes.
The ED is open 24/7 — 365 days a year. The entrance is located on the southwest side of the building.
Our optometrist, Dr. Jeff Goergen at Eye Associates uses state-of-the-art diagnostic technology to treat eye disease and provide medical eye care. Our personalized service includes customized fittings of a wide selection of glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses.
Whether you are in the market for new glasses or contacts, or you have an eye-related medical condition, Eye Associates is able to help. Our clinic also has visiting specialists including a retinal specialist and an ophthalmologist.

Family medicine practitioners provide comprehensive care to patients of all ages and genders, through all stages of life. Our board-certified family medicine physicians work closely with advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and physician assistants) to provide care for acute and chronic health conditions, working to ensure the best possible quality of life for each patient.

Fluoroscopy is an image of moving body structures, like an x-ray movie of the inside of your body. This allows your physician to see the internal structure and function, such as the movement of your throat as you swallow. Fluoroscopy images aid in both diagnosis and treatment therapies.

Dr. Chad McCance provides general surgery care at Atlantic Medical Center Surgery Clinic and Cass County Memorial Hospital. His practice includes minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques when appropriate. He performs a wide array of general surgery procedures, including colonoscopies and EGDs, bowel surgeries and resections, and tumor removals.
Patients have the right to file a complaint or grievance at any time and expect that filing such a grievance will not affect his/her future access to or quality of care. The Cass Health Online Grievance form will be submitted directly to the Risk Manager, and a staff member will reach out to discuss the complaint.

The Atlantic Medical Center Immunization Room provides immunizations for patients of all ages. You can always get vaccines if you’re here for an appointment, otherwise, walk-ins are welcome and will be accommodated as time allows. We encourage you to make an appointment to help you save time!
The Immunization Room is open Monday through Friday 8 am to 4 pm, and Saturdays from 8 to 11 am.
Patients who are undergoing chemotherapy, or who need infusions, are cared for in the comfort of our Infusion Room in the Cass Health Specialty Clinic. Our nursing team takes pride in the relationships they have developed with many different doctors, specialists, and hospitals around the Midwest. Our nursing team works with orders from specialists outside of Cass Health, as well as our own visiting specialists. This helps save our local patients a trip out of town, and it helps us meet our goal to provide more services locally.

Senior Life Solutions is our intensive outpatient group counseling program designed to meet the unique needs of older adults over the age of 65 struggling with depression and anxiety often related to aging. The program staff includes licensed social workers, a registered nurse, and other professionals dedicated to the emotional well-being of the seniors in our community.

Dr. Matt Weresh provides orthopedic care at Atlantic Medical Center Surgery Clinic and Cass County Memorial Hospital. His services cover a wide range of orthopedic needs, including total hip and knee joint replacements, carpal tunnel surgery, and sports medicine.
Dr. Caliste Hsu specializes in hand and microvascular procedures and surgeries and provides care at Atlantic Medical Center Surgery Clinic and Cass County Memorial Hospital.

Many who fail to respond to conventional treatments continue to suffer with no end in sight. All three treat patients with osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus, scleroderma, psoriatic arthritis, and vasculitis among other systemic rheumatology conditions.
All new rheumatology patients will need a referral from their primary care provider.

The Siblings Class is a free class that will be held quarterly at Cass Health. It is geared toward children between the ages of 2 and 10 to attend with their mothers who are at or past 34 weeks of pregnancy.

Abby Vetter, Cass Health’s speech/language pathologist works with patients of all ages for a variety of reasons including: Parkinson’s rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation, voice impairments, oral anomalies, pediatric speech delays, developmental disabilities, and feeding/swallowing difficulties.
