Dear Neighbor,

I think each and every one of us has a story of a nurse whose compassion, concern, and care left a lasting impression on us. In gratitude for those nurses, and the ones who will care for us and our loved ones in the future, we invite you to be part of giving back to the nursing profession.

We ask for your support of the Cass Health Nurse Apprenticeship — a highly competitive program that provides nursing students with a mixture of clinical experiences, alleviates the financial burden of higher education, and provides a support system before and during nursing school. Established in 2023, the apprenticeship program was made possible by a grant through Iowa’s Health Careers Registered Apprenticeship Program.

But the grant funds alone aren’t enough. Cass Health is heavily investing in our apprentices, making sure that all of their expenses have been covered including tuition and books, even going so far as to assist with purchasing scrubs and stethoscopes. Apprentices are also employees, and by the time they graduate from nursing school, they’ll have more than 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training — more than four times the average amount of clinical hours that traditional nursing students complete.

This program is more than a workforce strategy—it’s a lifeline. It’s how we keep care close to home. It’s how we prepare for the future.
