Dr. McCance began his practice at Atlantic Medical Center Surgery Clinic in 2008. He provides general surgery, thoracic surgery and critical care procedures. Minimally invasive surgical techniques are used whenever appropriate. These include laparoscopic surgery, MIOS (minimally invasive open surgery), and thoracoscopic surgery (scope surgery of the chest). Dr. McCance is board-certified and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In 2017 he was honored as one of 10 Hospital Heroes by the Iowa Hospital Association. Dr. McCance graduated from Hastings College in 1988 and completed medical school at the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 1992. He completed his general surgery residency at the VA and Methodist Hospitals in Des Moines in 1997. He served in the US Army Reserve, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2012.

Zachary “Zach” Hollingsworth, PA-C, is a physician assistant specializing in surgical care. He regularly assists Dr. Matthew Weresh, orthopedic surgeon and Dr. Chad McCance, general surgeon, with surgical procedures and inpatient follow-up care. Zach also cares for patients in the Atlantic Medical Center Surgery Clinic, coordinates with the surgeons to evaluate patients and clinical orders in both the outpatient and inpatient settings. He assists in surgery and coordinates with hospital staff to ensure optimal outcomes for patients.
Zach earned his Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Des Moines University in 2013. He began working with Dr. Weresh at DMOS in January 2018 before joining the staff at Cass Health in November 2018.
