Reach Out & Read
Let's Read Together
Cass Health is proud to be an official Reach Out & Read site. This national program focused on the importance of reading is endorsed by American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. We are able to offer this program due to the generous support of the Cass Health Auxiliary.
Well-Child Visits
During well-child appointments from 6 months to 5 years of age, your child will receive a new book from their primary care provider. Your provider will also talk with you about the importance of reading, language milestones, and how to talk, read, and communicate with your child. These new books are free thanks to funding from Reach Out and Read grants and through the financial support of the Cass Health Auxiliary.
Books in Waiting Rooms
In our waiting rooms in Atlantic, Anita, Griswold, and Massena, there are used books that you and your child are welcome to read together in our waiting areas, exam rooms, and to take home if you would like.
Reach Out and Read Works

About Reach Out and Read
Reach Out and Read is a national nonprofit that champions the positive effects of shared reading and engaging in other language-rich activities with young children. Reading with a parent or caregiver promotes healthy brain development, furthers language acquisition, and helps families build meaningful bonds.
Reach Out and Read shares the power of reading with families of all backgrounds and economic means, helping them make reading a part of their daily lives. This creates a ripple effect throughout our communities. About one-third of young children—and half of children living in poverty—in the U.S. arrive at kindergarten without the skills that they need to do well in school. By giving every young child a foundation for success, we strengthen our society and help combat the effects of income inequality.
