For Children

Car Seat Installation
Our Child Passenger Safety Technicians will inspect and help you install your child’s car seat, at no cost, to make sure it is safe. Car seat checks are offered year-round during special events or by appointment.

Child Health
Assist parents in obtaining well-child exams, oral health and developmental screenings for eligible children.

Immunizations
Childhood immunizations for uninsured and underinsured children. Call (712) 250-8122 for more information.

Parents as Teachers
Home visiting program, free for parents who are pregnant or have children up to kindergarten entry. Parent-child interaction, child developmental screenings and social-emotional screenings, parenting education, and group connections are provided as part of the program.

 

For Adults

Care for Yourself
The Iowa Breast and Cervical Screening program provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings to eligible women, 21 years and older.

A Matter of Balance
This program is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. It includes 8 two-hour sessions for a small group of 8-12 participants led by a trained facilitator, at no cost to the participant.

Disaster Prepwise
This program is offered at no cost to older adults. Disaster Prepwise is a one-on-one program that helps older adults prepare for disasters and emergencies.

For Our Communities

Community Health Needs Assessment & Health Improvement Planning (CHA CHIP)
Agency leads a collaborative effort to complete a community health needs assessment and health improvement plan for the county, aiming to make improvements in the health of area residents.

Communicable Disease / Epidemiology
Follow-up provided to persons exposed to reportable communicable diseases per the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Environmental Health
Call Guthrie County Health Services at 641-747-3972 for septic and well inspections and permits, and radon information.

Call Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals at 515-281-6538 for restaurant, hotel/motel, grocery store, convenience store, liquor store and bar inspections.

Public Health Emergency Preparedness
Coordinates emergency response planning and preparedness efforts for the county related to probable public health related issues.

Stop the Bleed, Bleeding Control Training
A person who is bleeding can die from blood loss within five minutes. While emergency responders will arrive as quickly as possible, bystanders are almost always there first. This free training program will teach you how to stop life-threatening bleeding.

Community CPR and First Aid
American Heart Association CPR training classes give you the information and the skills you need to help adults, children, and infants during breathing and cardiac emergencies.
