Gina Benton, CCHS Transcriptionist

ATLANTIC – Gina Benton had a long history of working in healthcare before she discovered how much she enjoys medical transcription. Her earlier work included working in billing offices, pulling charts, filing, and other behind the scenes support services. She joined the CCHS team in 2005 as a part-time file clerk in the Medical Records Department (now called Health Information Management), which included preparing patient records to be microfilmed into a permanent storage file. “I had worked around the transcriptionists, but never thought I wanted to be one.”

When a transcription position came open in 2007, Gina was given the opportunity to move into this new field. Since she had always loved to type, she decided to give it a try – and it’s a good thing she did. “I love it! I can do something I really enjoy and have an important impact on our patients’ health,” she said. “And it’s not just about my transcription work. It’s nice to know that even just a friendly smile as we pass in the hall or helping someone find their way can help a patient relax and put them at ease.”
