Surgical PA joins CCHS

Cass County Health System is pleased to announce the addition of a surgical Physician Assistant (PA) who will assist in surgery and the pre- and post-operative care of surgical patients.

Don Beitzel, PA-C, will assist Dr. Edward Fisher during orthopedic surgeries; he will also care for orthopedic patients in the Outpatient Clinic and hospital inpatients. Don joined CCHS November 2, 2015.

“I am looking forward to working with a group of professionals who are obviously very dedicated to providing outstanding care for their patients, something I am passionate about,” Don noted. “Having grown up in a small town in Iowa, coming to Atlantic feels like coming home to a place where I can do good for the community.”

In addition to his role in orthopedics, Don will support both Dr. Chad McCance, General Surgeon, and Dr. James Brown, Obstetrics and Gynecology, in surgery as needed. Don will also provide interventional radiology care (procedures guided by diagnostic imaging such as fluoroscopy), an area in which he has extensive experience.

“We are excited to have Don join us,” said Dr. Fisher. “Adding a surgical PA of Don’s caliber will allow us to create a more efficient, coordinated orthopedic team to better serve our patients.”

Don is a 2001 graduate of the Physician Assistant program at the University of North Dakota and most recently worked for the Mayo Clinic in Mankato, Minnesota. Prior to joining the Mayo Clinic, he worked for Iowa Radiology in Des Moines and at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Don and his wife Suzanne are both natives of Dubuque, Iowa. Suzanne is a nurse practitioner, and will be joining Don in Atlantic later this winter.
